T: Good morning, dear children! Good morn¬ing, dear guests! Today I am going to invite you to take part in our chat-show "Men and Nature".
During our show:
- we'll continue to speak about ecological problems;
- we'll discuss the relations between people and nature;
- we'll name the reasons of the main ecological problems.
- and of course, we'll think about the way out.
T: I'd like to create a warm and friendly atmos¬phere. It is the basis of a good discussion. Look at the rays of our smiling sun. You can see warm messages. Choose one of them and wish some¬thing pleasant to your classmates. Let's start "a wish chain".
Model of pupils' answers:
1. I wish you good impressions".
2. "I wish you witty answers". Etc.
T: I hope you are in a good mood. Let's return to our main topic "Man and Nature"- For the slogan I've chosen famous words of Prince Philip of Britain:
"Look after this planet, it's the only one we have". The Earth is our home. Un¬fortunately, we destroy it.
Look at one more quo¬tation: "The Nation that destroys its soil destroys itself. (Franklin Roosevelt) Do you agree with these words? Express your opinion.
Model of pupils' answers: I am sure people's ac¬tivities harm nature greatly. For example, we cut down trees, for timber products. But we do not think about the fact that it ruins our health be¬cause there is not enough oxygen in the air for us, to breathe. As you see, we really destroy not on¬ly forests but ourselves too.
II. Phonetic drills
T: Let's recite a poem. Look at the board and read
Т: So, we should take care of our planet. Why? There are lots of ecological problems. What en-vironmental problems are mentioned in the poem?
P: There are mentioned such ecological prob¬lems as water pollution, deforestation, hole in the ozone layer, air pollution.
III. Main Part
3.1 Vocabulary Practice
T: The problem of the planet destruction is ur¬gent! The relationships between Man and Na¬ture are complicated. According to his attitude to nature a man can be a Creator and a Destroy¬er. It is important to find a balance between peo¬ple and Nature. Let's remember the words which can help us. Repeat the "ecological words":
Global warming, killing animals, plant trees, nuclear pollution, poison, nature parks, air pol¬lution, rubbish, put filters, acid rains, ozone layer, create zoos, noise pollution, love nature, overpopulation, reduce pollution, feed animals, recycling, cut down trees, water pollution, radiration, use solar and wind energy, save resources, re-use water.
3.2 Group work
T: Let’s work in groups. We divide into two groups. Each group gets a set of "ecological words". The first group should find the words which belong to the section 'Man, the creator". The second group chooses the words which des¬cribe "Man, the destroyer". Use the words you choose to complete the chart.
T: Let's make up the rules what we should do and what we shouldn't do to find the balance in the relationship between Man and Nature.
1. We should use solar and wind energy.
2. We should not kill animals. Etc.
3.3 Dialogues (pair work)
T: People do not think about nature. They do not think about the harmful effect of their ac¬tivities. We'll try to imagine what our rivers and forests would tell us if they could speak. I need two representatives from each group. Their task will be to put the phrases into the correct order to create the dialogues between 1) a man and a river, and 2) a man and a forest. (додаток 1)
3.4 Pupils’ presentations (Практика монологічного мовлення)
T: While the representatives are working, we'll con¬tinue our chat-show. Let's speak about some ecological problems. What can you say about soil pollution(water pollution/air pollution)?
P1: A presentation «Soil pollution»
P2: A presentation «Water pollution»
P3: A presentation «Air pollution»
T: When you throw something away, it can stay it the ground for a long time. Listen very attentively to a short report, because after listening, you should look at the board and match the parts (1-5) with the parts (a-e)
P: (додаток 2) A banana peel stays in the ground for 1 to 2 weeks, while an aluminum can stays there for 80 to 100 years. When we throw things away we don’t think that wool socks, for example, stay in the ground for 1 to 5 years, a plaster for 10 to 20 years, and a glass bottle can stay there for a million years!
T: I give you 30 seconds to match these parts. …….. (музика)
T: Now, Look at the board once more. Check yourselves. Who has no mistakes? Who has 1 mistake?
T: So, a glass bottle stays in the ground for 1,00,000 years! Do you think about this when you throw things away?
T: Now let’s check up and listen to the dialogues between a man and a river
P- P: Dialogue “A man and a river”
T: Now let’s listen to the dialogue between a man and a forest
P-P: Dialogue “A man and a forest”
Т: Lets read a text about “The problem of environmental protection” and do after reading task (додаток 3)
T. You are young and you will live in our planet and it's your duty to save our planet for the future generation. Our Earth is so beautiful. Nature gives people its riches to live and enjoy. That's why we must take care of it. Then we'll be happy to live on the most beautiful planet in the Universe. Nature has its rights, and it is the duty of a man to re¬spect and defend these rights.
